Ah, so you do not even know that the Windows 7 Media Center puts all (or at
least most) of your media in one place in the UI. OK, you have no idea what
the Media Center is. Lovely... you are more lost than I thought.

> It puts *ACCESS* to all of your media files in one place.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the difference between this and what I
said. Of course, to explain that you would need a clue, and you clearly
have none. I say that not to be offensive but just so you know how clear
your cluelessness is. Really.

You really have no idea what the Windows Media Center is. Amazing. It is
roughly like Apple's FrontRow app... which is, of course, not at all what
Apple's Media Browser is.

And, of course, Windows 7 has nothing like the Media Browswer on OS X.
Nothing even close.

Have fun babbling about how I am wrong and how I never use Windows 7 and all
the other BS you spew... it is fun to watch you do so in hopes it is not
noticed that you are unable to make a point.

I can do all of what you do with your mac with Windows 7.
You on the other hand can not do all that I can do in Windows 7 on your mac.
That's a fact jack.
Sorry !
You'll just have to lives with it.

You are too lost to understand, but sure... I will explain it to you again
in hopes of setting you straight.

You made an absurd claim about Windows 7. When it was noted how absurd it
was and examples were given to prove it was absurd, you changed your claim
to say it was just about your preference for Windows 7 and then showed you
had *no* idea what was being referenced in terms of Apple's Media Browser
and Automator and the OS X program Tofu.

There, did that catch you up? Clearly you were lost before that.

> Some of you wing-nuts say you
> need different OS's for different things. I said *BULLSHIT*! You can do

Your claim was not that one could do things on Windows 7... your claim was:

-----
Windows 7 will do everything including all that the others can't do.
-----

And that claim was shot down. Hard. With simple off-the-cuff examples:
Tofu, Media Browser, Automator, etc.

Now your are making the claim you can do anything with Windows 7... which is
a softer claim than saying Windows 7 will do everything other OSs will.

> You think thats no big deal?

You and your ever changing claims and your utter lack of support are no big
deal... not like such ignorance has not been seen in these parts before.

> You think games are just a little small insignificant part of the
> computer world?

Where did you get that?

> Think again pal!

At least you realize I have had thoughts in the past... and hence you know I
am a step ahead of you. :)

> Games make more money than movies do.

I am sure if you keep asking around you can find someone who cares. Really.
But that person is not me.

> Oops!
> And the fact that you can't play most games on any linux distro

What game do you think I cannot play on an Apple computer? Just curious.
Not that I am saying there are none... but I bet you cannot think of any off
hand. Not because I think it is hard but because I think you are
incompetent about everything. Feel free to try to prove me wrong. :)

> It is the elephant in the room.
> So even if all of the big box stores offered Windows, linux (any distro)

I am trying hard to care. Really. While market share is important to some
extent, it hardly concerns me as long as my OS of choice is well supported
and unlikely to go belly up.

> Windows would.
> Big oops!

Ah, not you are into the my-OSs-market-share is big part of your game.
Maybe you will get back to actually focusing on your earlier claims and
even, gasp!, trying in useless hope to support them.

But you will not. Yeah, even you know now you made claims in hopes that you
would not be called on your BS and your ignorance. But you were. So now
you are just puffing up your chest and trying to sound like you are not
humiliated.

Just thought you should know how easy it is to see through you. :)

No! That is not really correct. it puts "access" to all of your media
files...all that you want access to. It is totally customizable.

"Windows 7 Media Center puts all (or at

Your missing key word is "access".

Nothing by that name of course, but I'm sure in functionality, Windows

In fact I know it can as I can access all of my media files from
practically all of my apps.
Especially Media Center.

No it wasn't.

Hard.

Maybe its hard for you to accept the fact that you didn't shoot anything
down.

With simple off-the-cuff examples:
> Tofu,

I gave you a script and the URL that would do it.
Then you changed your claim to all text. And I'm not sure if that script
won't read all text, not just web text as I have not used it nor do I
have any use for such functionality.

Media Browser,

Nothing special about that.
It can easily be done in Windows 7.

Automator, etc.

The fat guy with the beard wrote script for safari...big deal.
You can do that in Windows 7 too.

You can do everything in Windows 7 that can be done in all other OS's
and you can play most all of the games in Windows 7 yet they cannot be
played on a linux or macs box.

Well, other than the fact you started by saying Windows could do all that
other OSs can, then changed that to be it did all you needed, then changed
it again to say anything you can do on other OSs you can do with Windows.

And yet you have not been able to utter a single word of support in all this

Nope. It would do a subset of the thing Tofu does and only on text in a
browser.

My claim has been the same since I mentioned Tofu - Windows has nothing like
it.

And so far nothing has been shown to suggest I am wrong.

Read your own link.

Yet you cannot find a program to do so. Hey, maybe this will help you to
understand:

Note that the browser is *not* looking at folders, it is looking at photo
albums, music play lists, etc. Now, since you can do everything I can and
you can do it on Windows, go ahead and show me the similar video of you
doing much the same on Windows - accessing such things from within other
programs. Remember, I showed just a few, but the browser is available to
many, many programs. Heck, it is even a part of the Open dialog for
programs which have not added it.

So show me how... what program allows for the type scripting you can do with
Automator. Make an even bigger fool of yourself and name a package.

Well then, making a video like the one I made you above should be easy.
Good luck! Oh, by the way, I replaced the cursor in post-production... for
the screencasting that I do that is important. By all means name the
Windows program that does that.

Well, that is what it mostly comes down to in discussions like this one,
At some point the Windows users is going to ask: "But you can't play
<some-huge-ass-mmorpg-monster-role-playing-game>. For a lot of people
gaming is what the computer is for. For them Windows is an obvious choice.
A choice they do not make since Windows is mostly what you get when you go
out looking for a gaming rig.

No doubt - Windows is a better gaming platform than OS X or Linux. But
Frank could not even name a single game to make his point.

Not at all actually.

Although I am sure that you are going to try and claim that this years
version of Windows finally manages to get it right and will deliver on all
of the old broken promises as well as some new ones.

This isn't about "my habits". This is about Microsoft's habits.

[deletia]

They go above and beyond the call of duty in their quest to create new
and even more heinous forms of malware.

...cause it costs real money and you've done nothing yet to indicate
that I should waste any of it on the latest version of Microsoft's broken
promises?

> Are you that mentally screwed up over computer software?

When it tends to actively interfere with my ability to use the stuff
I want, sure. That's the problem with "mere computer software". It's all
about preventing the other guy from exercising his freedom to choose what
he wants.

Now as a genuine HTPC user (rather than just a wannabe) I would take
the rather common position that "its a production system" and you better
not mess with it unless you have a VERY good reason.

Got a good reason?

Most businesses can't rest on their laurels based on a monopoly that
dates back to MS-DOS. They actually have to work to present something to
the consumer that isn't total drek.

Now why wasn't MCE a complete product to begin with?

The Windows Media Center is a "10-foot" UI designed to allow a user to
access all (any?) media they want in one place... in general principle like
Apple's Front Row (though different in implementation).

Apple's Media Browser is, in some ways, the opposite of that. Instead of
having one place where all the media is available, it makes all of the media
available everywhere - from essentially any relevant program. It allows
users, even if they do not know how to use files and folders, to add their
images to an email or a Pages document... or to use a music playlist in
their DVD creation program. It makes the media organization tools far more
useful - the groupings created there are not just internal to the program,
they are available system wide. And for the person who does not know how to
use files and folders, not only does it allow them to still use their images
and music and videos, it is a stepping stone to understanding. Here is a
quick video I made of it: <http://tmp.gallopinginsanity.com/browser.mov>
