ok since i reformatted my flash drive as a ntfs file system and plugged it
into my computer it stops responding then i pull it out and the computer says
windows delayed write failed the file G:/$mtf has not been written files or
data may be lost. then i put it back in and do the same thing 4 times and
then it starts to work correctly and nothing is gone does any body know how
to fix this. it is also happening when i put in to a vista. it is a u3
cruzer 8gb.

It sounds like your drive is failing. Solid-state drives DO fail, many times
from being kept near a radio transmitter such as a cell phone in ones
pocket.

Greg is right. Have you tried running a chkdsk on it?

U3 drives have proprietary software installed - note the following

"Reformatting the drive will remove some of the software, but not all of it.
The virtual CD-ROM drive cannot be removed by reformatting because it is
presented to the host system as a physical device attached to a USB hub;[1]
the official U3 Launchpad Removal Software, available on the U3 website,
disables the virtual CD drive device, leaving only the USB mass storage
device active on the U3 USB hub controller, at which point the remaining
software is removed by a subsequent format, performed by the removal
software itself"

Don't pull it out until you have successfully executed the "safely
remove hardware" widget in the system tray.
