Two Directories with Duplicate File

The 'C:/DocumentsandSettings/User/My Documents' folder and the ''My
Documents' folder under Desktop show duplicate files. Why is that? Are they
listed twice but only saved once?

I want to save files to 'My Documents' but they are being saved to
C:/DocumentsandSettings\User\My Documents instead.

The name "My Documents" under the Desktop is an alias for \Documents &
Settings\User\My Documents. So, when you save a file to "My Documents" the
file goes to \Documents & Settings\User\My Documents.

The "My Documents" on the desktop is simply a shortcut to
"C:/DocumentsandSettings/User/My Documents." There is no duplication.
