The only way you can do that is by using the filters within your
newsgroup software to filter out the idiots, trolls and other garbage
posters. A conspiracy theorist would surely say the whole thing is a
plot by MS to drive people from newsgroups to their crappy forums.

Actually the conspiracy theorist would look towards the "do no evil" folks
at Google who are trying to drive people to Google groups and kill off
Usenet. The VAST MAJORITY of Usenet spam originates from Gmail addresses /
Google groups.

Well, there you go, shows I'm a terrible conspiracy theorist! I think
you might have a point as I would think the google web interface would
make it easier for spammers and scammers to access usenet. However, I'm
referring to the trolls we usually have to endure in this group.

I do that as well and for the most part it works OK, but there are still the
people who reply with the original message quoted. Plus, it seems there is a
larger group of people who want to disrupt so the message rule gets larger
every day. I know it's easy to get caught in the trap and respond sometimes,
which only contributes to the problem, but I don't want to filter these
people out at their first off-topic postings either, so I give them a while
to see if they will remember they are contributing to the problem. This
means I have to sort through their mud for a while too, just as they have
sorted through mine.
It used to be that you could file a complaint with the poster's ISP if the
post was blatantly off-topic and obviously meant to inflame. The ISP would
warn the offender and even suspend their account if they persisted. But,
money is more important to these companies now, so they will do little to
help.
I was hoping someone had found a new way to stop the offenders at the onset
with only a little effort, an effort I would be more than happy to extend,
to stop all this bashing going on.
It would be nice to go back a few years technologically in some areas. =D
Thanks,
Dave

Are you referring to the "mail-to-news" service?

Don't know what they call it as I don't use any Google services but most of
usenet spam I see comes from google groups.
