Hi
After I have run the FixIt program from Microsoft to clear past items now
when I
Right click Taskbar
Click Customize
Costomize Notifications Current Items with the behavior column right click a
current item you get a drop down box with 3 options
Hide When Active
Always Hide
Always Show
The problem now is I get the drop down box with arrow but no selection, or
in other words it is stuck on hide when active.
How can I correct this please?

I assume you mean you ran the following Fixit:

"How do I clear past items from the Customize Notifications dialog box in
Windows XP"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283084

Did you verify that the "fixit" worked, by restarting your computer?

Did you try using a Restore Point dated prior to running the Fixit?

Have you tried reducing the size of the "Active title bar" in order to get
the drop down menu items back?

Right click Desktop, and select properties.
Left click on the Appearance tab and then the Advanced button.
Select the "Active title bar" item.
Reduce the size of the bar.

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

Hi Donald
Yep that's it thanks for that, I did try and restore but that failed "Unable
to Restore" was the message.

Try deleting these two registry values :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify]
"IconStreams"=""
"PastIconsStream"=""

....then clear the check-box for "Hide inactive icons" in the "Taskbar and
Start Menu Properties" (press [ok] to exit), then reboot.

Hopefully, when you logon again, all will have corrected itself, and you
can hide inactive icons once again from "Taskbar and Start Menu
Properties"...

That "Fixit" deletes a couple of Registry values, see Tim Meddick's reply in
this thread for the values that are actually deleted by the Fixit.

Did you try resizing the "Active title bar", as described in my previous
post?

Good luck,
