Since I E8 is such a pain and is a part of the SP3 download, is it possible
to Remove SP3 using Add/Remove programs? Have all the KB updates
automatically installed by XP after the installation of SP3 also to be
removed? If the answer is yes, will the system automatically revert to SP2
which was there before or has SP2 to be re-installed all over again?

And this is in relation to...?

Fact: IE8 is not "part of the SP3 download."

Fact: IE8 can be uninstalled (cf. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700) as
can SP3 (cf. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249).

Fact: If you were running WinXP SP2 before you installed SP3, uninstalling
the latter will return the computer to WinXP SP2.

Fact: More updates are uninstallable via Add/Remove Programs.

Fact: Support for WinXP (x86) SP2 ends on 13 July 2010. After that date,
computers running WinXP (x86) SP2 "will no longer receive software updates
from Windows Update" (i.e., Automatic Updates will not work and Windows
Update website will not be accessible) until SP3 is installed.

• What does it mean if my version of Windows is no longer supported?

PS: From your post's headers: Outlook Express 6.00.2900.5843 => Your
computer is NOT fully-patched to begin with!

You can -- according to everybody here, although I have not done it and
can't confirm or deny -- Uninstall IE8.

Since XP /SP2 will not be supported any longer (as of a few weeks from now),
I'd not consider Uninstalling SP3.

I can see how you would arrive at the idea that SP3 and IE8 are connected at
the hip, but that is apparently the wrong conclusion that you and I share. I
know without any doubt that I got IE8 ans SP3 at the same time, and by the
way IE8 was presented, I thought it was a mandatory part of getting SP3. I
guess I didn't pay full attention to what the checkboxes were saying when I
was getting SP3. I imagine you made the same mistakes I made. Oh well, life
goes on.

I have not found IE8 with XP/SP3 to be a pain at all. My installation runs
fine.

You can uninstall IE8, but I'd think twice about removing SP3.
