Is there some way that I can stop my computer from searching from the
address bar in IE8?
I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 and IE8. I have 2 home pages set up (in case
that matters).
Here is what happens: I type a website address in the address bar and, if I
mistype the address, sometimes I get the message:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems
More information
That would be okay with me because then I can look and see that I mistyped
the address and I just fix the typo to get to the page I want.
But, sometimes it will automatically do some kind of search from the address
bar and I'll see something like this in the address bar:
http://www.bing.com/search?q=sjadds.com&src=IE-SearchBox&Form=IE8SRC
At other times, it will do a similar search but with Comcast instead of Bing
(I have Comcast as my ISP).
I don't want the address bar to do any kind of search, and I don't want IE8
to change what I originally typed in the address bar. I want it to leave it
as is so I can just go back and fix the typo without having to re-enter the
entire website address.
I have tried going to the Advanced settings in IE8 Tools and turning off
search from the address bar, and I have tried removing or disabling search
engines from the add-ons. But it won't stop searching from the address bar.
Is there anything I can do to get IE8 to NEVER search from the address bar?
Thanks.
