Being a creature of habit, I'd like to find a way to change the Start Menu
in my new laptop with 7 to make it closely resemble the Classic Start Menu
in XP that I have on my desktop. (Yes, I skipped Vista.) It appears that
the only way to accomplish this is to download an additional piece of
software. I couldn't find anything from Microsoft that addressed it. Has
anyone come across any programs that they'd particularly recommend or
caution against?

Have you considered a custom Toolbar? Since W2K Pro I have used a custom
Toolbar which points to a folder (in my case on my D drive). Under it are
sub-folders for Apps, Utils, Music,Programming etc. I squash it down on
the Taskbar so it works like a menu, I haven't used the Windows menu for
years.
