Start menu weirdness cont'd

Z

I click the Start button (or press the Windows key on the keyboard) and it
does this:

Note that the cursor is in the field labeled "Search programs and files".
I've had others here tell me that this does not happen to them, that
pressing Start does not pop up the start menu with the cursor in the search
field. How do I set mine to not do this?

My cursor is in the start field when I click the start button. Very handy.

It does here, that is the default. Just type the programs name such as word
and there it is

That is how mine works too. Have never seen any other sort of action.

Ahh...I may have misunderstood what others were saying. I guess this is not
only default behavior, but it is behavior we are stuck with because there
are no options...<sigh>. Actually, I use Classic Start Menu to give me XP
style start menu, as I find the Win7 start menu to be pretty worthless.

Mine does it that way as well. But do note, that it doesn't stop you from
using the arrows to navigate elsewhere within the menu.

Yah - tab works also. I'm just whining about Microsoft forcing changes on
us :). It is a bit annoying to not be given choices (I know, I'm beating a
dead dog here...). It still throws me off, the changes they made.
