    Hi,

On one of my machines (which have a nearly identical set-up), access to
the Start Menu various items is slow (several seconds), with hard disk
    activity before they display.

Since I have 1.5 G of RAM, it is not an issue of lack of memory. What
can I do to make XP keep in memory the Start Menu and display it
instantly or almost, as on my other machines?

    Thanks for your pointers.

Any invalid shortcuts or shortcuts pointing to network locations within
    the start menu ?

Thought it was just me. Misery loves company. Figured some recent
install might be the culprit. I started the MS antivirus about when this
    started happening. How about you?

Least it must not be hardware, if it's a common problem.
