STACK OVERFLOW AT LINE 0 ERROR MSG

F

Fred Grosskurth

Flightless Bird
I'm running windows XP SP3 I.E.8. all of a sudden I started to get the :
"STACK OVERFLOW AT LINE 0" error msg when in I.E.. I'm a little uneasy to
just go
ahead and clean my registry which I'm told is where the problem lies. I
have UNIBLUE Registry cleaner 2009, but I hear stories that cleaning your
registry is not the best thing to do. Someone suggested to remove JAVE and
FLASH, but I'm hesitant to do that as well. Other than this error I have no
other problems, XP runs well and fast.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks,

Using a registry cleaner here is a bad idea, just as you have heard.
Do you know what you did or installed prior to when this happened?
How about using System Restore back to the day prior to when this just
happened, assuming it just happened?

Your injudicious use of "UNIBLUE Registry cleaner 2009" may have /caused/
the problem! If you ever think your Registry needs to be cleaned, repaired,
boosted, tuned-up, cured, tweaked, fixed, or optimized (it doesn't), read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions. Also
see
http://blogs.technet.com/markrussin.../02/registry-junk-a-windows-fact-of-life.aspx

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer?

Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you
bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

Thanks for your response.

I haven't used my Uniblue registry cleaner for over a year now. I just got
the stack overflow msg about a month ago. I'm using McAfee Virus
protection.

Bill:'

Thanks for your response.

This just started in June. I haven't used Uniblue Registry in about a year.
All I've done was use I.E. Tools and remove temp files.

Thanks again for your response:

I didn't get a chance to finish answering your questions.

I have used McAfee for years and just downloaded it when I got my new PC
back in 09 and yes it's current. I use Verizon DSL. Defender is the only
spyware I use.

I haven't used registry cleaner for over a year. However, like an idiot, I
used it yesterday hoping that would fix it.
