Win XP Pro SP3

I have uninstalled Office and am trying Open Office for a while.

I Cannot do spell checking in Outlook Express, I assume it uses Word's spell
checker?

How can I spell check mail without Word installed ?

Any help appreciated.

OE 6 does not come with it's own spell check. You need Word or an MS
Office program, pre 2007. The spell checker in Works 4 through 6 will work
with OE, but not other editions. If you do not have such a program, you
can download a free spell check at one of these sites.

Vampirefo Spell Check.

Download it from Major Geeks:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2952

Or download it from SnapFile:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spelloe.html

Or you may like TinySpell. (Checks the spelling as you type).

Download it here:

Correct, Outlook Express was designed to use Microsoft Office's spell
checker.

Keep a dictionary handy, or try to find a 3rd party software solution
via Google.

Joe,
Open Office.org 3 has a spell checker.

While that's true, it won't help the OP; OE requires the spell checker
of Microsoft Office or one of that suite's applications.

OK, Bruce,

He may still be able to use one of the free spell checkers from Major Geeks.
I've used them before on Outlook Express.

Thanks guys. I did indeed get a spell checker from Major Geeks and it works
just fine.
As an aside, it is amazing how similar to the Microsoft Office apps are the
OPen Office apps. Identical in many respects. And free!

You have it backwards, it's the open office apps that are similar, and
sort of compatible.

Thanx Tom, that's exactly what I said. It's called English.
