I installed SP3 a little bit ago. I knew I was going to have video
driver issues (Dell D600 Latitude - I've posted a bit before about
this), but all it seemed to do (that I noticed anyway) was remove my
ability to rotate my screen display.
Now I find that I've also lost DVD and QuickTime playback. I can play
a WMV file okay, but trying to play a DVD or a QuickTime file locks up
the machine. Can't call up Task Manager, can't close any windows -
got to do a hard shutdown (power button).
I found this:
http://www.terryscomputertips.com/computers/lost-cd-ad-dvd-drives-windows-xp-sp3.php
which pointed me to a MS KB article dealing with this. The FixIt
troubleshooter didn't fix it. I did the regedit steps, restarted, and
tried to play a DVD - lock up. The DVD drive was still installed,
according to the Hardware profiles (no yellow !).
Where can I go next to try to resolve this?
