Software Installation in XP Pro

All of a sudden there is one software package I can't get installled on my
laptop. I'm running XP Pro (SP3) and have installed this software (Autocad
2000) on other machines in my possession which are running the exact same
version with no probs. The isntalltion barely gets started. Autorun
initiates the process and when I elect to install Autocad it hangs. When I
check the Task Manager it idicates nothing is running. PS. I AM running a
dual boot system on this laptop with XP PRO (SP3) on one volume and Windows
2000 Pro on the other. My objective is to get all my programs and data into
XP Pro and delete the Win 2k Pro partition. Any suggestions-anybody?

Try installing in "clean boot" state:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

I have seen software that refused to install in "normal" boot, install just
fine in "clean boot". Probably a conflict with some other software that you
have on the machine.

As far as I know, Autocad 2000 simply will not run on XP or anything newer.
Your best bet will be to continue with a dual boot with an OS that supports
your version of Autocad - that's what I do (with Windows 98 SE).
