Security problem.

I have WindowsXP pro, SP3.


I have just noticed in the Registry at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR

that there is a list of all plug-in devices such as cameras,
USB thumb drives etc that I use occasionally. Presumably
imbedded here are times of access of these to the computer
and God knows what else.

For security, can I delete these entries from the registry
by adding their path to the CCleaner program for routine
daily deletion? Presumably the entries will be added again
when I use any device again.

Please help.

If you are concerned about the security and stability of your PC then your
best bet is to remove your registry cleaner.

Yes you can and you may want to delete the setupapilog as well.

Thank you very much for this info. I have been reading some
books on this subject and it's frightening what's stored on
the computer HDD.

I cannot find the file "setupapilog" I have looked
everywhere.
Please help

C:/WINDOWS\setupapi.log.0.old 1293KB Mar.18
C:/WINDOWS\setupapi.log.1.old 1013KB Apr.5

New files are created when they get big enough. You may have
more than one file to delete.

Hello, I am having trouble adding the registry file:
MyComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR

to the "Include" page of the CCleaner. Is there any special
techniqe required to do this?

What security? who's security? What are you trying to hide? Leave it
alone! That's why computers get all screwed up, people messing with the
registry when they don't know what the hell they are doing and then come
here whining and crying what a piece of crap windows is because they
were deleting things they should have never been messing with to begin with!

Also, I see you use CCleaner, don't worry, you keep using that you won't
have to worry about histories on the computer because it will trash your
registry at some point and you'll have to reinstall all of it anyhow!

Registry cleaners are a joke, dangerous, have NO GOOD use, and should be
avoided at ALL COSTS. Anyone that knows anything knows to avoid them
like the plague.

Computer tip #1: If you don't know what you are doing, STAY OUT OF THE
REGISTRY!
