Before posting here, I tried to make sure that I was not violating any rules, having made a similar, unanswered post last Monday in the Widows XP Hardware Forum. I want to know if there is a way to locate file corruption since the Epson Technician to whom I spoke thought that the problem was in Windows. I own a Perfection 1570 Photo Scanner whose Copy function does not work. An error message appears, "A component of the Twain driver is missing." The scanner printed to an Epson Stylus NX300 All-in-one. The two units worked well together until I had to do a clean install of Windows and a System Restore. If the problem is in Windows, where would it be? Is there a default driver I could use in place of the manufacturer?
Did you have to do a System Restore after a clean install of WinXP? A clean install always requires a reinstallation of all your necessary drivers , software and windows updates. Once that is completed a Image of your system in that state is good to have tucked away some place. However, I would try removing the 1570 software and drivers. Disconnect the Device. Restart and reinstall the software and drivers and only reconnect the Device when asked to do so. The scanner is looking for a driver function in a driver or DLL and doesn't find it because it is the wrong driver or DLL. Windows has some default TWAIN driver for scanners, but the chances are your scanner has special drivers or DLLs just for it to support other functions not included in the basic XP drivers. Usually, this stuff comes on a CD with your scanner, but you can download it. This is how my Epson scanner works. If you reinstalled XP, you need to reinstall the scanner DLLs and drivers (and other things) that are specific to your scanner which you will find on the Epson page in the Drivers and Support section: http://www.epson.com/ Curiously, they don't seem to list a Perfection 1570, but they do have a Perfection 1670 so you need to find the right installation package for your scanner and install it using their included directions.
To all: Later, after I posted my original message, I uninstalled and reinstalled Smart Panel, the program which New Soft provides to operate the functions of the scanner, which is 1670. The 1570 is a typo. I did not think to disconnect the scanner from the computer, but anyway the functions of the scanner now work. However, I expect that the new installation will not continue working for long. Incidentally, I have not received notification of your posts in my email folder as I expected. Something on this page is not working. Something on this page is not working. "This page" is working perfectly. Whatever you are using to access this newsgroup is going to be responsible for any problems. You'd be better off using at least OE to access newsgroups. -- HTH, Twayne > > "Jose" wrote: > >> On Feb 1, 6:55 pm, harlemnocturn >> <harlemnoct...@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >>> Before posting here, I tried to make sure that I was not violating >>> any rules, having made a similar, unanswered post last Monday in >>> the Widows XP Hardware Forum.
