And you may not know that it was probably already on your system if your
use automatic updates. It's updated monthly.

MRT runs automatically on the next boot after being automatically
downloaded. It does a quick scan that usually isn't even noticed. The
user gets a pop-up notice if it finds anything bad. There are no
resident pieces left afterwards in memory - MRT is not an AV, it's a
pure scanner.

You can run MRT manually, Click <start> type MRT <enter>
A full scan is quite comprensive, for those things it's looking for; but
that's only a partial set of Malware. Microsoft says MRT looks for the
most prevalent malware.
