I don't see any threads starting out "Re: alias says...."

I see one thread entitled "alias says.......".

The whole point is, Panzke aside, which seems to pepper this
group with post after post, how hard can it be to *not* read
troll posts ?

Do you have no self control ?

As you can see, you end up with a bunch of orphaned posts all
starting with Re:

If you didn't KF, there's be ONE thread entitled....

"alias says he can walk to the beach from Madrid, in 20
mins...Oh the distance is about 190 miles"

It's painfully obvious that is OT.

The headers show he's using Agent. Xnews will do so also.

Getting close.

As predicted, Vista didn't last too long and Win 7...chip off the old
block of Vista.

Apple is doing good, profits are up some 86% or something. Now valued
more than MSFT from what I hear.

Many a MS pundits left here for the feal good and censored options at
Microsoft. This keeps them myopically happy.

Still no soluions for pathetic diska and network performance doesn't
help any.

That I gathered, but I thought making the response to an honest question
into a mystery was rude. Since this is the only group I use where trolls
are a problem, I would rather not have to pay for a newsreader.

In which case I repeat my question. How do I do that with XNews?

"I downloaded XNews and looked over the docs, but I am still lost when it
comes to blocking followups to known trolls (feeding the troll):"

% kill if from known troll
Score: -9999
From: Joe Troll

% kill followup to known troll
Score: -9999
????

You can kill the thread. First, open xnews.ini and copy and past this
line, I put it in right before the "Compose" section but I'm not sure
it matters:

[Popups]
ArticleList=acaAddToScore,acvRevealThread,acaReConsThread,-,acaMarkAllRead,acaMarkAllUnread

Make sure under "Special" you have "Enable Scoring" and "Hard Kill"
selected, close and restart Xnews.

Now, when you see a troll's thread, just right click, select "Add
to score file", from the popup check "Kill", set expiration to
whatever you want, push the "Subject" button and be sure "Matches"
is selected, click the "Rescore on Apply" box and click "Apply".
You should now see the entire thread marked -9999 and if you restart
Xnews, the entire thread will be gone.

Follow up is set to news.software.readers, OK?

I could condense it into 4 long lines without word wrap and leave out
the commas.

Just set it at FOUR lines. Most of your sig serves no useful purpose
anyway...
