Re: search pane missing?

WHY was it removed? That was a very stupid thing for Microsoft to do
especially with the advent of widescreen displays. Yeah, I may sound upset,
but that happens when people remove functionality without being upfront and
explaining why in the "What's New" section. So, again, in case you missed
the question: WHY was it removed? Please don't tell me to Google it. I have
gone through hundreds of links from a Google search and none of them explain
WHY it iwas removed.

Thanks,
Lane

And if you knew why...what would you do?

If you never find out...what will you do?

In fact, it wasn't removed from IE7. It is just disabled by default
because hardly any search site supports it any more.

It's still there in IE8 too apparently. A checkbox in Options, Advanced
tab, browsing section:
Enable websites to use the search pane

Removed in IE7? ...IE8? You're reply to thread from August 2006, long
before IE8 was even in beta.

OK:
The checkbox mentioned was already checked and it did not work. However, I
did some more searching and found two reg files that helped

/* start of first file */

Originally, neither one of these worrked even if I restarted Internet
Explorer. But after I rebooted my computer, it worked fine. Since I did not
reboot after the first file, I am not sure if the second file is necessary.
To run the reg files, copy the text in between the "start" and "end" comments
(not including these comments) and place in a text file and save with an
extension of ".reg". Then double click the file. Create a separate reg file
for each of the above.

Hi Lane,

see http://www.iecustomizer.com/iepanels

There are about 300 side bar panels for IE, FX, Sea Monkey and Opera. If you
have a custom Side bar ping me and I can give you instructions to package it
in an installer and add it to my listings at iec.

Regards.
