I took the laptop to a tech service that specializes in laptop screen
replacements. They diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning LCD
screen cable (part # 447986-001). Apparently the original tech damaged
it during his service. The specialists are charging me $120 labor, and
the used part costs about $50+ on eBay.

Turns out it would have been cheaper to let the more expensive
specialists fix the screen in the first place.

Thanks for the update! Everything makes total sense to me. And yes,
sadly you are right. Maybe the original tech might give you something
for your trouble, Well it is worth a shot anyway.

I've decided not to mention any of this to the original tech. I'll
simply use his inexpensive services for desktop repairs and less
breathtaking laptop repairs.
