Nick Heath offers an inspiring
interview with
Eban Upton, designer of the
Rasberry Pi, selling for $35, so students can use it to develop skills programming a computer.
...we felt that we could try to do something about the situation where computers had become so expensive and arcane that programming experimentation on them had to be forbidden by parents ...
The
Raspberry Pi (RasPi) is a credit-card-sized single-board computer developed in the
UK by the
Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intention of stimulating the teaching of basic
computer science in schools. As of a week ago, they've sold about
1 million.
Check out RasPi at
BETT in London, January 30 - February 2, 2013. Sorry, I forgot the booth number.
It's refreshing to read that
this project continues even after a year of sales and application development.
Eban is an education leader in the finest sense, an
edupreneur, because of what he does, not because of his title or place of employment. Kudos, Eban and colleagues! Thanks for the inspiration to develop tools so that people may choose to learn more and learn it faster in schools.
