Problems with some programs

Recently a few programs are behaving strangely. They seem to be primarily
internet dependent programs (Internet Explorer and others). Other internet
dependent programs work (firefox for instance). What the programs seem to do
is start to open and then shut down before it completely opens. The firefox
doesn't do it. The other programs that open and shut off are not microsoft
products only and the outlook express works fine. I have use spybot and
fsecure (from my internet provider) which show no malware or virus issues.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Rameris,

I recently realized that IE8 wouldn't open. Since I don't use IE as my
browser, I had no idea how long it had been that way. Same issue as you
describe. I reinstalled the program and now it's fine. Sometimes a
file can get corrupted and cause the program to fail.

Run CHKDSK /F at a command prompt, reboot when prompted and let it run.
You may have files residing in a bad cluster, which may only be a
limited incident, or could mean an impending hard drive failure if it
happens again.

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2;
Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) when posting in a forum or
newsgroup. Please do so in your next reply.

When (approx. date) did you install the F-Secure freebie?

What anti-virus application was installed before you installed the F-Secure
freebie, was your subscription still current, and did you uninstall it
before you installed MSE?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?
