Hi, Everytime I try to install Office Professional 2007, I type in my
product key and then a window comes up and says there was an error installing
it, and I can't do anything else. Can anyone help please.

Can you post back with the exact message that you receive, as well as your
operating system?

Hi Susan, Many thanks for replying. Exact message reads Microsoft Office
Professional 2007 encountered an error during set-up. Close

Also had another one pop up this morning - Setup error - Setup cannot
continue because a requried file is either corrupted or not available. Run
Setup again from the original source disc or download location.

My operating system is XP Home Edition.

Many thanks Carol

Are you converting a Trial version to a paid version? If not, did you
originally have a Trial on your system? This is common when there is a Trial
version on your system and you are either converting it or trying to install
on top of it. I don't know if either is the case for you, so...I would try
this (without knowing more about your setup):

Go to Windows Control Panel
Uninstall Office 2007 and the Activation Assistant (if they are there)
If the are, and you cannot, then follow the steps in this article to
manually remove it:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us

(Tedious, but clean)

Then re-install Office 2007 using your installation media.

In addition to Susan's post you need at least XP Service Pack 2 to install
Office 2007 onto your computer. If you don't have at least that SP then the
install will also fail.

Hi LVTravel, thanks for your reply. Before I bought Office Prof 2007 I did
enquire if I could install it with my XP Home Edition system and was told
that it was ok. I did install it when I got it and it was ok, it was when I
tried to delete the trial version that things started to go wrong, and I have
not been able to install it since. I don't understand the error that says a
required file is either corrupted or not available. Just don't know where to
go from here

Are you sure there's no Office 2007 Activation Assistant in your Windows
Control Panel's "Add/Remove Programs" application that you can uninstall?

Maybe it's a good excuse for a new computer.

:)

Before you do that, though, make sure, as LVTravel suggested, that you have
updated Windows to the Service Pack 2 level. Since it did install once, I
suspect you do have SP2. You can find out by right-clicking on My Computer
and choosing "Properties", then look to see if it says SP2 or Service Pack 2
somewhere on that screen near where it says Windows XP Home.

You could then try the manual removal instructions for all versions of
Office 2007 here, then try to re-install from your good installation media:
