Hi Everyone,

Soooo, after putting up with 9845 pop ups from the IE 7 - I took
the plunge and upgraded to IE 8, apparently it's crap too!

Also re-installing the entire OS on the computer doesen't help
either but it was a fun way to waste my time.

So why does the browser that claims to be so great do this !?!?

Yea, I know,TOOLS – Net Options – Advanced – Browsing and fart
around with trying to get the “disable script buttons†to actually work,
is there anything else I can try?

Man, THIS is so annoying! Also for matter why won’t the new fresh
installed IE 8 browser let me change the default search provider from
Yahoo to Google?

And yep, I tried to add it via “create your own too†no luck there either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have Chrome on the PC now
but I “want†to stay with IE.

Cheers’
Dave

Upgrading in hopes of fixing an ongoing problem (especially your hijackware
problem) is never a wise idea.

Uh OK, well I can't argue with that .... I do like women but unfortunately
the problem ONLY happens in IE and not in Chrome and Firefox so that
leads me to belive that it is the browser ...... Any other ideas?

Ah look those lovely letters I like to see at the end of a person name.

Hi, thanks for answering, well I figgure that fresh reinstall can't hurt.
It never does with XP ....

However as for a hijack, I doubt it, I do run System Suite 10 and that
does a pretty good job of keeoing an eye on things plus after the
re-install it just started happening again out of the blue and as I said
before it's NOT doing that in Chrome or Firefox ....

Plus would a hijack do nothing else but cause script errors and even if
it does. Why can't I disable the debugs via Network Options and Advanced?
Like it's suppsed to let me do?

Cheers'
Dave

The proof is in the pudding (and in your original post that you snipped in
your reply to mine).

Or you could have just turned on your IE7 popup blocker. :)

Neither IE7 nor IE8 are pieces of junk or crap, despite your particular
experience. If your popup blocker had been turned on (you never
mentioned this), then the most likely reason for your browser's behavior
(excessive popups) is malware infestation.

I concur that was a waste of your time, but at least you had fun.

BTW, was that a Clean Install or a Repair Install? And which OS are you
running?

> So why does the browser that claims to be so great do this !?!?

It's not normal behavior. There must be a problem on your end, again
most likely malware infestation.

If the popup blocker was turned off, simply turn it back on.

Otherwise, you need to address your likely problem, which is malware.

Certain security programs prevent this change from occuring and you
would need to find out which program is causing this to happen and then
enter those programs preferences and adjust accordingly.

Also, malware can prevent these changes, too.

First, verify your popup blocker's status. Then identify every security
program you are running. Lastly, scan for malware:

Well yea but it's the script error dialog box that's popping up it's not
really
a pop up ad error I want to block .... and as I said - it's a brand new
install
and there is NO malware involved.

Well it was a good excuse to nuke and pave but I had just done that a while
earlier becasue I lost a new 1 TB seagate drive .... but I got another under
warr so WTF.

Just XP Pro - I have my 10 CAL's for Win 7 but there just on two laptops so
far to see if I like it or not! (grin)

Nope, it was there before the nuke and pave and it showed up again right
after a brand spanken new LL format and re-install. It was not malware.

Plus - the dialoge boxes are not showing anything scarey - just pissant
little
script errors the won't go away - and again dispite making sure that both of
the disable scipt debug options are chekced in Adv Tools !! That's the
kicker!

Well its not malware and I don't want to use the pop up blocker to "hide" the
errors with the script debug I want to get it fixed not blocked or hidden.

Well I've been using System Suite for about 5 years since ver 6 and its works
quite well so I know it's not that causing the script errors.

Thanks for the suggestions Daave !

Hi Dave,

Everyone has lost this thread.
"Well yea but it's the script error dialog box that's popping up it's not

> a pop up ad error "

Tools>Internet Options - Advanced tab, uncheck "Display notification about
every script error" and check "Disable script debugging (IE)"
and "Disable script debugging (Other)"

Regards.
