What are your preferences in setting up your permalinks. I am skeptical about changing from default as i have read that users may get some missing page errors as well as search engines. So i want to do this early on while my site is new and very minimal traffic (me)...
WordPress permalinks can be tricky. Tom McFarlin is definitely the expert. http://code.tutsplus.com/articles/quick-tip-post-types-taxonomies-and-permalinks--cms-20345 I prefer year/month/date/title because it helps me quickly determine when the article was published. In fact, Tom states this in his article, "bloggers often like to use the year and, optionally, the month and date the post was published to indicate the date on which the post was published."
I was just reading a blog at elegantthemes and it suggested never use the default and i always have. Never hurt my SEO that i know of.
Yoast is considered the expert on SEO. He prefers /category/title - but this is a preference - and I'm not convinced it makes much of a difference. https://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/#permalink-structure
"From an SEO point of view, I have seen nothing to suggest that any of the options mentioned previously have an advantage over the others. If one permalink structure was better for SEO, everyone would be using it." http://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/wordpress-permalinks This article is nice because the author discusses the options in clear language.
