Paint Shop Pro 8 crashing on Windows 7

I'm using Paint Shop Pro 8 on a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit machine. It keeps
crashing on
me and I've noticed that the problem seems to occur when I'm using the crop
tool. Is PSP 8 supposed to be compatible with Windows 7, and any idea what could
be causing this problem? Thanks.

Better yet, visit the Paint Shop Pro website & get full details plus the

You won't find any "full details" on this abandoned product. The only
thing you will find is the 8.10 update. If that's what he already has,
there's no point in visiting the Corel site.

Oops you're not allowed to ask any question on any NG without someone
telling you to Google it. Didn't you know that? LOL.... it probably takes
less time for them to type the one word answer you need.
I'm using PSP 9 on my new Win7 box and it works flawlessly, and runs
much faster than ever before.

I haven't a clue why it does that.
I have read that version 7 works on Windows 7, so I would assume that 8
works too.
Try re-installing the program or upgrade to PSP9 or higher, although I can't
recommend PSPPX3, but it depends on what you use it for.
I use PSPPX2 without any problems.
Everything runs a lot faster on a Windows 7 machine :)

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and I have PSP 5 installed and running
without
any problems. I also have PSP 7 installed, also running without problem,
but I like
PSP 5 better for reasons having nothing to do with compatibility.

I don't know why you are having problems, but one thing I would suggest
trying is
running the program with the "Troubleshoot reliability" option. Locate
psp.exe in
Explorer (C:/Program Files (x86)\Paint Shop Pro 5\Psp.exe by default),
right click
to bring up the context menu and select "Troubleshoot reliability." This
only has to
be done once, not every time PSP is run.

Where? Paint Shop Pro 8 was released when Microsoft's most recent OS
was XP, and the product was sold to Corel before Vista or Win7 were
released. I don't believe there was any official mention of OS support
for that product after about 2003.

Corel's current "Paint Shop Pro" product has little or nothing in
common with the classic Jasc product. Any published system requirements
for the current product would not apply to PSP8.

No problems at all? I've heard that there are some printing issues,
and I know that PSP9 is incompatible with Aero. It works OK, but not
flawlessly.

Or run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP or some other version
prior to 7. Right click on the exe file and choose Properties, then the
Compatibility tab.

Corel still supports 8. Have you been to the Corel website?

"Support" in what way? They have its one update available for download,
and host a user-supported web forum. Otherwise, you're wrong - Corel
specifically DOESN'T support anything except the current and previous
versions of their programs.

Irrelevant.

I don't know what Paint Shop Pro is compatible with. It has crashed on all
platforms on various computers that I have tried it on - finally gave up on
it.

!?!

I can't imagine what you've been doing wrong. I've been running Paint
Shop Pro on Win98, Win2000, XP, Vista, and Win 7, and it's almost never
crashed at any time on any platform. It's always been extremely stable.

Me, too. In fact, I am using the same Paint Shop Pro (version 5) program
on 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate that I ran on Windows 98. The only thing I
can think of that might cause problems would be the video card and/or
driver.

I moved also my Paint Shop Pro 8 to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit,
but it runs fine.
