Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your
next reply (no need to quote this post):

1. Is Automatic Updates enabled & is the computer fully-patched at Windows
Update?

2. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

3. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer?

4. Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when
you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

Send the file to yourself as a test case. Some files are not sent to protect
against computer viruses.

Those are not diagnostic questions. They are general information. Try doing
the same on your computer sending the file to yourself.

Try in a new identity.

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test
it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the
old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity.

He is severely lacking in credibility. He thinks EVERYTHING (all problems)
is somehow connected to
a virus program. Wonder how he got MVP moniker. Perhaps another fake.
His usual response, if you disagree with him, is "Bite Me". Oh

I suspect you allow Thunderbird (Tbird) to become the default Mail Client
(replacing OE) when you installed it and the New Message window opened via
Send To was actually a Tbird window, not an OE window. (Check Tbird's
Outbox or Sent Items folder to confirm.)

Re-assert OE as the defaul Mail Client & all should be well (whether you
uninstall Tbird or not):

1. See http://www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx; then see...

2a. http://www.oehelp.com/oelnk.aspx and/or...

2b. Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program
Access and Defaults | Custom (<=important!) | Choose a default email
program: Select "Outlook Express" here (not "Use my current...").

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity...

File | Identities | Add new identity

Also make the new identity your default via File | Indentities | Manage
identities.

Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2)
import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete
the old one (File | Identities | Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection:

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
