Have you tried that? As far as I can see, all I can edit is the /settings/ for that e-mail account (as it says). No way to change it...

I'm with you. I don't worry about that aspect either, although I do try
to respond to new posts within 20 minutes of having done the last sync.

I trust you, Bear (I trust you on almost everything). And I'm aware
that what you say is correct. Nevertheless, it's something that I
don't overly worry about. Some of what I post may turn out be
superseded, or even wrong, as a result, but the alternative of doing
it directly on the web is so much slower that I have no interest in
doing it. I'll live with the problem you mention.

All I saw there is settings for the email but no way to change the email
to another address.

Alerts.live.com can only configure the respective Live ID used to sign on to Alerts.live.com.

Alert options for each respective Live ID are:
1. When signed in to WLMessenger as available
- WLMsgr, and Live ID email account and/or mobile device
or
2. When not signed on WLMessenger as available device
- Live ID email account and/or mobile

It does not provide the ability to send an alert to another email address
- though one could (and external to alerts.live.com)
a. configure the other email address to pop the Live ID email account, or
b. forward the Live ID email account to another email address(manual or via the web account configuration or if permitted via a local rule)

You're right. Not even adding a Linked Id changes the option. Useless.

ICIM my primary Live ID is a non Hotmail web-based E-mail account. The
account I linked it to is a real Hotmail account.

I don't think /linking/ Live IDs has anything to do with anything much. It just makes it (surprisingly) quick and easy to switch from one account to another, whichever live.com page you happen to be on. I just performed my regular password change on all my Live IDs. With them linked, I can do it all from the same page and it makes what used to be a major chore into a doddle.

Back to the question of alerts and being able to change the address they're sent to. We've established that you can't. But one thing I did discover (by accident) is that Forwarding from a Hotmail account appears to be no longer restricted to 'to another Hotmail account' unless you pay for Hotmail Plus. This could be either another unpublished feature of Wave 4 - unpublished so as not to p*** off those who've just shelled out their $19.95 solely to have this possibility - or my account has somehow been upgraded for good behaviour. Anyway, it seems to be working, so it's worth trying.

PS to my immediately preceding post: I just tried forwarding from a new live.co.uk account to a Gmail one. I'm told by an inbox banner that my mail /is/ being forwarded. So for those who want to retain their gongs and stripes from the MS forums but have their alerts sent somewhere else, there's the answer. It does require, though, that the Live ID used at the forums is a Hotmail-type one (i.e. with an inbox at mail.live.com).

Whew, after reading about all those problems with 'MS Forums' and the
various workarounds that are attempting to make using them more
palatable, Google Groups is starting to look better and better - handy
daily-abridged-newsletter of all posts to any Usenet group, simple
Reply format, search-able archives, solution-search across multiple
groups as well as forum sources - didn't know I had it so good. Could
it be the functionality and usability GG adds to newsgroups is a big
part of the reason MS abandoned newsgroups?

Google Groups is probably the greatest source of Usenet spam ever. Get a
*real* news server such as http://individual.net that you can access from
any NNTP client whatsoever instead of the garbage web interfaces.

Fyi...Forwarding for free accounts was part of the current Hotmail Wave 4(M3 code) update but not discussed afiacs on any of the Team blogs

What becomes of the older articles that noted that Hotmail Plus or Premium subscription(MSN) as a requirement will hopefully be addressed if posters add on to the same thread or better yet...locked and point to a new Solution/How To.

If necessary, and you haven't updated a response of your own...feel free to point to this one.

Not surprising. How would you feel if you'd paid $19,95 for just that functionality only to find that it now came for free? As far as I can see, many of the other Hotmail Plus advantages are gradually being incorporated into free accounts. Here are my current limits:

I may have spoken too soon. Alerts from the MS forums are sent by forumsup@microsoft.com. They all fail Hotmail's sender verification checks and get consigned to junk (unless, perhaps, you add forumsup as a contact). Possibly for the same reason, they don't get forwarded - at least the one I received well after I enabled forwarding, after several successfully forwarded messages and before several others, didn't make it to Gmail. This may well be the reason why so many complain of not getting their alerts. I've been to reportabug:
