OneNote 2010 RTM Unfiled Notes Wiped Clean

I was able to open all my beta Notebooks and all data is healthy moving from
the beta to RTM. Except Unfiled Notes. Unfiled Notes are empty. I assumed
the new version just overwrote my Unfiled stored in the My Documents folder.

I figured I would just go back to some of my older Acronis Image backups and
drag the imaged Unfiled from pre-RTM backups.

Problem is when I drag them to the desktop and attempt to open them with the
new OneNote they all say there is only 4K of data and no files in them.

Am I missing something here and I've possible lost the ability to view any
past Unfiled notes?

Not sure what happened - I just checked mine (I rarely do) and they're all
still there from way back in the OneNote 2007 days, so the RTM doesn't
overwrite it.

Do you have any other backups you can look at? Can you search your hard
drive for "Unfiled Notes.one" just in case it's in a different location?

WOW Ben, thanks for the tip to do a search for another copy of Unfiled Notes!

It was opening the Unfiled Notes at the top level under My Documents/OneNote
Notebooks.

As it turns out I found my 240MB Unfiled Notes at My Documents/OneNote
Notebooks/Personal. So I moved it to the top level out of Personal and now
it sees my 240MB of Unfiled Notes.

Not sure how OneNote 2007 targeted/drilled down into the Personal Notebook
created it there and used it from there??

Based on this observation, I guess I've learned that there should only be
one Unfiled Notes in OneNote and extras should NOT be buried in other user
created Notebooks.

Thanks for your help and glad I didn't lose 240MB of data.

Excellent, glad you got it sorted. I sort of suspected that maybe you'd
have another Unfiled Notes section somewhere. Glad I was right.
