Office Programs "hang up" on Send Attachment

I am using Office 2007. When I attempt to send an open document from Excel
or Word using the Email icon in my small toolbar, the originating program and
Outlook "hang up" for about a minute and a half. The document being emailed
is saved on a network.

Any ideas of what could be causing this issue?
