Office 2010 Home and Business Edition

J

Jack Gillis

Flightless Bird
I am thinking of pre ordering Office 2010 Home and Business Edition to
replace my Office 2003. Will I be able to install it on my desktop and
laptop with the license that comes with 2010 or will I have to buy two
licenses? That would probably be a deal killer.

Thank you.

You can pre-ordering now from Amazon
<http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Office-2010-Home-Student/dp/B00337D8U6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1271536325&sr=1-1>,
or you could buy Office 2007 now (from amazon or other retailers) and
get upgrade free of charge to Office 2010
<http://office2010.microsoft.com/en-gb/tech-guarantee/microsoft-office-2010-technology-guarantee-united-kingdom-FX101829423.aspx>.

The upgrade is either download version or a DVD version subject to
paying a modest sum to cover handling and shipping costs about $10.

Either way, the systems requirements for Office 2010 is here:

<http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/ee624351%28office.14%29.aspx>

You can install Office 2010 - Home 7 Student version on 3 systems at any
one time so I can tell you categorically that you don't need to buy two
licenses.

Jack,

That depends on how you buy it - major sources on the internet have quoted
Microsoft that upgrade pricing will NOT be available.

Basically, you either buy a Full Packaged Product that includes a disc and
more flexible license terms (this is what I believe you need) or a more
limited Product Key Card (Previously the term Media-Less was used)

A Product key card version is less expensive, BUT Licensed for 1 install on
single PC only AND License cannot be transferred to another PC -

according to the description supplied on Amazon.com (I am using that source
as a reference so you can compare and pre-order if desired)

Included with Office Home and Business 2010

Thank you. Did you mean the Home and Business version rather that the
Professional version or did I misinterpret?

Jack,

What I included in my reply applies to BOTH Office 2010 Home and Business
version and Office 2010 Professional version.

I included both as a reference for others that might need the additional
programs included with Office 2010 Professional.

Another reply to you was actually quoting Office Home and Student 2010 -

Full Packaged Product of Office Home and Student 2010 is a license for 3
computer and a Product Key Card version of Office Home and Student 2010 is
a license for:

Licensed for 1 install on single PC only AND License cannot be transferred
to another PC

AND this additional restriction applies to Office Home and Student 2010:

NOTE: - Not for use in any commercial, nonprofit or revenue-generating
activities, or by any government organization.

Microsoft decided to simplify the Office Suite 2010 lineup - so one cannot
assume IF they buy a particular 2007 suite (with free 2010 upgrade) they
will get the same products included in the free 2010 upgrade.

Buy Office 2007 - Office 2010 Free, MFG - Microsoft
http://office2010.microsoft.com/en-...ce-2010-technology-guarantee-FX101825695.aspx

"Your Office 2010 upgrade may not have the same programs as your Office
2007 suite. See the FAQ for more information."

To get free Office Home & Business 2010 you need to buy Office Standard
2007. Its licensing terms are as follows:

2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a
license, you must assign that license to one device. That device is the
“licensed device.” A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a
separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on
the licensed device.
b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device
for use by the single primary user of the licensed device.
c. Separation of Components. The components of the software are licensed
as a single unit. You may not separate the components and install them
on different devices.

I suspect these licensing terms will be the same in Office 2010. the
source os here:

<http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA102103171033.aspx>

At he above link, all Office 2007 is listed and you need to click on it
to get a link to the downloadable license.

The comparisons with Office 2007 is here:

<http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Office-Suites/category/202>

At the bottom of the chart you will see office 2010 equivalent product.

Jack,

OK, caught my mistake - I was posting a reference to the Office 2010 Home
and Business - and included a Microsoft Office Professional 2010 reference
- sorry

>>> Traditional Disc Version
>>>
>>> This version of Microsoft Office Professional 2010 includes the software

BOTH Office 2010 Home and Business version and Office 2010 Professional
version -

Full Packaged Product include:

"the software on disc, with a product key. It is licensed for one user to
install on two PCs - a primary machine and a portable PC."

As a business owner, I believe this is what you originally indicated you
needed - license to install on 2 computers.

Thanks for providing these resources and URL locations:

However, I would suggest to Jack that if he can wait until the official
release for 2010 - he would save money buying:

Office 2010 Home and Business Edition Full Packaged Product at USD $279.99
unless he can find a price closer to the 2010 version pricing:

Lowest I could find was this at Amazon:

Microsoft Office Standard 2007 FULL VERSION at USD $318.54

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000HCVR3A/encouragersof-20

For some, that might be close enough.

And of course, using the Microsoft comparison resource page:

Sure. He could also buy an upgrade version provided he has the
necessary qualifying product. For example, for most Office 2007
"business" products, Microsoft Works version 6.0 to version 9.0 is a
qualifying product and so if he shops around for Works product (about
$20 from Amazon) then he would be in a better position to buy an upgrade
of Office 2007 now and this could be upgraded to Office 2010 for free
when it is released end June. Obviously, one needs to do the sums to
get the optimum benefit. The last thing I want is him ending up paying
more than he should. I like people to save money wherever possible.

There ARE a limited number of 2007 products you can BUY today and receive
FREE 2010, so I suggest this URL:

http://office2010.microsoft.com/en-...010-technology-guarantee-faq-HA101812304.aspx

Then click on "What Office 2007 products qualify..."

For what Jack indicated he needed - my previous post of

"Microsoft Office Standard 2007 FULL VERSION at USD $318.54

Peter,

In one of two places - use this handy chart - Buy 2007 Suite - Get THIS
2010 Suite

http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Office-Suites/category/202

OR

http://office2010.microsoft.com/en-...010-technology-guarantee-faq-HA101812304.aspx

Then click on "What Office 2007 products qualify..."

(NOTE: Purchase and activate a qualifying Office 2007 product between March
5, 2010, and September 30, 2010, and you can download Office 2010 at no
additional cost.)

The 2nd reference includes:

Office Standard 2007 - get Office Home and Business 2010

Buy Office Basic 2007 - get Office Home and Business 2010
