OFFICE 2000 and WINDOWS 7 ... NOT!

My new laptop has 7 and my old version of Office 2000 does not work.
Seems like its ok with Word & Excel, but Outlook's phone book can't find a
WAB.DLL file. Without a phone book the program is useless.
Are there any fixes out there?

Patricia,

The apparent tone of your comments indicates that you are upset your 10 year
old software doesn't work properly with the most current operating system.
That would be like saying your new car with a 6 CD changer and satellite
radio won't play your cassette tapes. Without cassettes, the sound system
is useless. Actually, without a phone book, Outlook is quite useful. It
will still send email. That alone is certainly a benefit.

You have three choices:
1. Continue with Office 2000 and enjoy the functions that still work
2. Upgrade to Office 2010
3. Find a computer with XP and install your Office 2000 on it

Sometimes, reality is a bitter pill.

4. install a Windows XP virtual PC and run it under XP mode. I have to do
that with Media Player 11. The version with Vista/W7 is missing some very
useful features. Thanks for your stupidity, M$$$!

Outlook 2000 required files installed in conjunction Outlook Express.
Windows 7 does not include Outlook Express or a mail program of any kind.
Your Wab.dll files is an application extension for the Windows Address Book.

If your interest in Outlook 2000 is limited to email support, you may want
to uninstall Outlook 2000 and download Windows Live Mail {a free Microsoft
download}. Windows Live Mail has an email program without all the features
supported by Outlook 2000. Apparently you do not use these extra features.
Windows Live Mail also has Contacts support and will import data from your
old computer's Windows Address Book file. Just copy the Windows Address Book
{WAB} file on your old computer to a flash drive and import to Windows Live
Mail from flash drive.

If you change your mail support type from Internet Mail Only to Corporate or
Workgroup mode, you will find that the wab.dll issue is no longer relevant.
CW mode does not use the Windows Address Book.

Can't upgrade to Office 2010 yet. It's still be tested.
