Physical Review E, 19 January 2012: Vidar Frette and Per C. Hemmer, two Norwegian researchers have calculated how the average boarding time onto passenger planes depends on the number of passengers. They show that twice the number of passengers only takes 1 1/2 times longer. This suggests that letting, for example, rows 16 through 30 go before rows 1 through 15 may prolong boarding times.
