They are likely right if you mean they deny that Norton is behind the
problem.
If you'll take the time to look around there are actually some fixes for
issues that may come up.
Did all this start right after installing Norton? If so, uninstall it and
see if they go away. If it happened a week or so after installing, it's not
likley to be Norton as much as it is malware of some sort. But if
uninstalling Norton fixes the problem, you've at least narrowed it down to
one particular area.
Did you turn OFF any previous file protection before installing it? If
not, try installing with those things turned off. I'd include DEP if it's
turned on.
Does Event Viewer give any hints as to what causes the problem? It's very
likely it does and the preceding info or warning entry likely will identify
where the problem arose.

Symantec Event Manager Service - CCSVCHST.EXE
Ccsvchst.exe will appear in your c
Program Files\Common Files\Symantec
Shared\ folder. It is the Symantec Event Manager (ccEvtMgr) service. This
file installs with Norton Antivirus, Norton Personal Firewall, and Norton
Internet Security version 2003 or later. ccEvtMgr stands for "Common Client
Event Manager". It logs all activity including virus alerts, application
activities and errors to a log file. Please do not remove this file. It is
needed for these programs to work properly.
In Norton Internet Security, this file can be viewed by picking Options then
Internet Security then "Log Viewer".
In Norton AntiVirus the log can be viewed from the main control panel by
clicking Reports, then Activity Log, then View Report.
Safe
Did you look at the Activity Log for hints?

* That does not appear to be a Norton file!* In fact, most hits I found on
it are that it's a Trojan and in others it is an unknown. Enter
Lightningsand.cfd in a Google search to see what I'm talking about;
there are many, many hits there and a couple that sound like the same
problem you have.
It looks like you might have stumbled onto part of the culprit! It doesn't
look like it is THE malware per sae, so deleting it may just recreate it, or
possibly screw up your machine. I'd read thru the Google hits first and see
what you can figure out.
It's possible that uninstalling Norton might get rid of your issues,
though, if the malware is located in that folder so I'd try that. And then
re-install it and see what happens.
Does the file Lightningsand.cfd come back somewhere else on the disk? Do
a thorough search of the whole disk because in the search its location was
listed in several different folders.
Do the problems go away?

From what I saw, it's not a disk problem although some of the unanswered
questions were about failing disks. Personally I don't think it's the disk.

I hope you'll let us know the outcome.
