No Sound when using Windows Media Encoder X64

Hello I am having an issue with using Windows Media Encoder x64 to stream
live TV from the cable connection on a Windows 7 Enterprise OS. I am using a
AVerTV Combo G2 TV tuner card that has TV in, Antenna in, S-Video, and Line
in. I am able get Video perfectly but no audio. The weird thing is that
Windows Media Center puts out audio and video without any issues. I am not
sure what I am doing wrong. I couldn't find anything else from the newsgroup
that helped me out.
Thank you

You may need to re-check the Sources tab in windows media encoder.

If the Avermedia TV tuner exposes a separate video and audio source,
ensure you've selected the audio source from that device.

It's quite possible to have left the Default Audio Device as audio
source, which would usually be the Line-In of your sound card.

If the Avermedia tuner doesn't have a separately listed audio device,
it may be sending audio via your sound card's Mixer device.

In the second case, you'd need to click "Configure" on the Audio
Source selection button, then look for "Stereo Mix" or similar, which
would be better called "What you hear" - it's the sound output you'd
send to speakers.

Finally you may have a loopback cable for audio from the TV tuner to
the sound card - in that case, Line-In would be what you'd need to
select on the Configure... dialog.

I am using a Dell Optiplex 755 with Windows XP Professional and the onboard
sound card driver is SoundMax.

The original TV Tuner Card that we have used on this machine to encode that
worked was a Hauppauge WinTV 61000 series that is over 5 years old. This card
had a line out that allowed us to push the sound out for the encoder to read.
The only problem with this card was that the video looked grainy, so we
bought a new TV tuner card.

The Avermedia card we previously bought and is mentioned in this discussion
was returned because we needed an answer before our return period was gone.

Now we are using a Hauppauge 1850 on the same Dell 755 machine with the
SoundMax driver that is having the same issues the AverMedia TV tuner did.

I did the two solutions you that you believed solved the issue but they
didn't.

1. Both the AverMedia and Hauppauge 1850 did not have a seperate audio
source according to the Sources tab in WME and Device Manager.

2. I also tested both the default audio device and the SoundMax driver that
the Audio tab gave me as a choice but still no audio no matter what choices I
put it under (i.e. LineIn, Microphone, and Mixer)

3. When I changed to either Default audio device or SoundMax as the audio I
came into another issue of going into the audio to configure I can only get
Line In even though I choose Mixer. The Apply button is greyed out to keep
WME from taking the changes I am asking it to.

4.Your final solution isn't working either at which it did for the old card
but the new TV tuner card has only a Line In port and no Line Out. But I did
put a loopback cable from the Line In port of the TV tuner into the the
Headphone, Line In, and Microphone ports of the onboard soundcard. I also
installed an external soundcard and tried the same thing but no results of
Audio from the Encoder.

On a side note after going into the audio properties when using the old
Hauppauge TV tuner card where sound was working and saw that the default
sound was a Microsoft RDP Audio Driver. When install the new TV tuner cards I
get only the SoundMax driver and no RDP Audio Driver. I couldn't find any
info on an RDP driver except info like getting audio over Remote Desktop.

Neil I know this is an overloaded amount as a reply but from the other posts
you really know your stuff and if you can help me out you will actually be
helping out a Private University's IT Department also I will buy a Windows
car decal to put on my car. Thanks a whole bunch

That's used by remote desktop client when connected to a server or
other OS using RDP. If you're doing that, the sound will not be
transferred over RDP to the client while WME is running (i.e. you
cannot 'listen in' or monitor the WME instance sound over RDP)

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/269393 which indicates a probable
issue with the way you're using this setup.

This is a known issue and you'll have to use another way to get into
the server (for example VNC) or use command line scripts such as wmcmd
to setup and run the encoder

Alex Zambelli has a more recent version of the wmcmd.vbs script at his
site http://www.citizeninsomniac.com/WMV/#WMCmd
