No Sound Toshiba 1135-S155 Satellite Laptop

Hi:

Just recently for no known reasons I have lost all sound capabilities on
my Toshiba 1135-S155 laptop. Running Win XP Home Edition SP3 with Avance
AC97 audio.

It's not muted and I have all volume turned up.

Any help will be most appreciated.

Does the sound card appear in Device Manager & is not grayed out ?

Sometimes Microsoft Update will offer sound card drivers that aren't
correct for your hardware. If that has happened you can usually roll
back the driver to a previous version to resolve it. Then run a custom
scan of Microsoft Update and hide any sound card driver listings from
being offered.

No everything in Device Manager is normal and indicating everything
working properly. I haven't done anything that would have affected Audio
driver that I know about.

Just out of the blue no sound.

Have you tried uninstalling the Sound Controller in Device Manager and then
rebooting the machine to let Windows reinstall it?

It's a problem with SP3. I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334 with XP Media
Center 2002 and when I installed SP3 I got BSOD. I paid quite a bit to
recover my data and bought a larger HD. When I reinstalled everything,
including SP3, I lost sound on my Realtek High Def. Then the blue screens
began..so I uninstalled SP3 and everything was back to normal i.e. sound came
back and blue screens stopped. I've no idea what to do now:(

Just because things look "normal" in Device Manager doesn't mean you
have the right driver.

We can help with ideas (more eyeballs) if you do this:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select
All, Copy and then paste the information back here.

There will be some personal information (like System Name and User
Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just
delete it from the pasted information.

This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork.

For audio information, expand the Components, click Sound Device,
click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back
here.

I would figure out what you have right now though, before you just
start making changes. When you post what you have now we can help
look to see if it is right for your environment.

When you know what current the driver is (and make a note of it), you
can roll back the driver in Device Manager, reboot, see what the old
version is and see if things work.

I have a Dell Inspiron 700m laptop that lost the sound which was caused by a
broken wire from the motherboard through the hinge (cause of the break) into
the top/monitor where the speakers are located.

Took it to the shop where the Tech advised me that it was a common problem
with the model and Dell does not offer a replacement part. The headset jack
continues to work and that is now the means I now use to listen to sound on
the laptop.

Give a headset a try.

I would have tried harder for a fit that does not require dremeling,

I have had SP3 installed along with all other Windows Updates with no
problems.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Audio Driver, but still no sound.

I own a Toshiba 2410 SP203 (Pentium IV). In the past I installed SP3
and got all sort of problems, so I decided to get rid of SP3 for good.
Since then I never experienced any glitch with my laptop. Besides, I'm
very very careful with MS updates. In my opinion SP3 and Satellite
don't like each other.

Is SP3 included in your original installation CD's or just SP2?
I suggest you backup your data, reformat and reinstall Windows SP2. If
still you get no sound then you have a hardware problem.

BTW, how much memory do you run? If yours run the default 256KB I
suggest you get much more memory. With less than 1GB the Satellite is a
crap.

Hi:

Operator error! This laptop is one that I only use now for trips and in
the process of loading it in the carrying case I must have moved the volume
knob on the bottom side of laptop. I always keep the volume low and
apparently all that it took was a little bit of movement to turn it
completely off.

In looking for the mic connector port is when I saw the knob, which I had
forgotten about, and once I saw it I immediately knew what the problem was.

WOW - Thanks for this last post on the Toshiba Satellite. I've been using my NB305 Mini-Notebook all summer. Just returned home and am back on the Satellite A105. Didn't have any sound and spent a lot of time surfing the net looking for a solution. I did all the things suggested with no results until this last post. I had forgotten about the volume dial on the outside of the A105 (NB305 has fewer bells and whistles), so when I saw this last post, the light came on. Turned the external volume dial and the problem was solved. So much work for such an easy solution. THANKS for the help.
