I want to speed up part of my home LAN, but am clueless.

Main question is whether I can isolate part of the LAN and make
it gigabit, leaving the rest Cat5e - specifically the connection
between the PC I use for my daily work and my Windows Home Server
box.

Can anybody name a newsgroup or forum where this stuff is
discussed?
