California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) activated the California National Guard to help at COVID-19 testing sites. The governor activated the national guard to increase capacity at testing facilities.



  • 200 Cal Guard members will be deployed across 50 Optum Serve sites around the state
  • The omicron variant currently accounts for at least 80% of all cases in the state of California.
  • The state's test positivity rate is 21.7%.
