We had power outage and when I came in next am computer (Win XP/SP 2) was
off. When I tried to print, network printer was not in printer list. Printer
is HP network printer w/internal print server. All other computers on network
were not affected by whatever happened.

I tried to add printer back w/no luck. Printer does not show up when
searching. I tried IP address, printer name and could not see it on the
network. I've shut down computer and printer w/no luck.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Try System Restore:

Does the printer appear to the other computers?

can you ping the IP address of the printer from your computer?
have you power cycled the printer?

If the printer does not show up as a shared network resourse when you browse
\\ServerName, it most likely is *offline* in some way.

My apology Bob, I should have stated that to start with. Although other
computers were shut down due to power outage, only one was affected.

Yes, I can ping printer and have cycled printer and PC. Tks JohnB.

Perhaps the Print Spooler is not running? Click Start, Run, type in
NET START SPOOLER and hit enter.

So if you do Start > Run > \\ServerName for the server that has the shared
printer, other shared printers show up, but not this particular one?
And it *does* show up when you do the same thing from another PC?

And you've checked to make sure the spooler service is running on your PC?
If it wasn't, no printers would show up.

This doesn't solve the mystery but.... you could add that printer,
configuring it to do direct IP printing, versus going through the server.
If you can ping it, you should be able to do direct IP printing.

Thanks Daave, that did it. Usually that's the first thing I try but for some
reason the bell did not ring on this day. Maybe this will help someone else.

YW, Ken. Although other methods might have worked, it's not a bad idea
to first try SR. Glad it worked.
