MS Bluetooth Mouse not discovered

P

Paul Richards

Flightless Bird
Windows XP Pro SP2 + MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000

Trying to get the mouse 'discovered'.

Control Panel -> Bluetooth Devices -> Devices -> Add -> Add Bluetooth
Device Wizard -> check 'My device is set up and ready to find' -> Next
-> 'Windows cannot find any Bluetooth devices'.

Control Panel -> Bluetooth Devices -> Options -> Turn Discovery On ->
Apply gives error message: "An error occurred while Windows was saving
your settings. The following settings were not saved: Discoverability
settings, Connection settings".

Any solutions gratefully accepted.

No, I deliberately bought a mouse which didn't need to take up a USB
slot.

I think what Jim is trying to figure out is exacting how your PC is enabled with
the Bluetooth technology since neither Windows XP nor does the mouse itself
provide this feature.

You could try a simple uninstall/reinstall of the Bluetooth device found in the
Device Manager listing.

If still no joy, your best bet would be to contact the tech support responsible
for the Bluetooth technology found on your PC.

Well, using 'Update Driver' refound and re-installed the Bluetooth
driver - not sure how it went missing. Anyway it will still not
'discover' my mouse. I'll need to contact HP, my laptop manufacturer.

Thanks.

I was going to ask who makes your notebook, but you mentioned HP. Have you
checked their support site for any updated drivers for your model? And the
easy part- I assume you tried a new battery in the mouse?

Yep. I've have this mouse working fine under Windows 7 on another
machine so I'm surprised XP won't find it.

Sc Tom: see my reply to Jim above. It's a brand new mouse which works
fine under Windows 7 on another machine.

Did you check HP's site for an updated XP Bluetooth driver? My Logitech
Bluetooth mouse worked with no problem on my Win7 notebook, but required
drivers on my XP desktop.

Yes, the drivers shown on HP site are dated earlier than the one I have
installed,

They may be worth a try then. It's possible the drivers you have now are
from a Microsoft update, which sometimes are not that reliable since they
are pretty generically written. If you have the current drivers'
installation package and the older drivers don't work, you can always
re-install the ones you have now. You be in no worse (or better) position.
