Mouse pointer speed keeps reverting

I just installed Win7 on my HTPC where I have an Adesso wireless keyboard
with built-in trackball. By default the trackball pointer speed is too fast,
and I can go into the control panel and slow it down, but on reboot it
reverts to the faster speed. I've googled around and I see some people have
problems like this when they have special software installed for their mouse
and it's settings are conflicting with Window's settings, but I haven't
installed anything special for this keyboard/trackball. Ideas?

You did ask for ideas, so I will give one, though I have never had such a
keyboard. It is likely that the person who installed windows used a PS2
mouse, or at least not a trackball thing. So you might in fact have two
devices installed and you are trying to set the other one, which of course
is not connected. Or windows is reverting to the other one every time you
reboot. Something like that.

My windows has no trackball entry in Control Panel, just one entry for
'Mouse'. When I get into that, there is a Hardware tab which shows what I
am supposed to have, and which I reckon one has to select before changing
any properties.

Incidentally, you say that you installed nothing special, but plug'n play
does not actually mean that nothing needs installing - i.e. Windows might
have installed something without you even knowing.
