I have 32-bit Vista with WMP 11. There are sites which offer free samples of
full-length videos. The files are listed as .wmv files, but when I try to
play the free files the computer says that WMP cannot play the files. I have
tried adjusting my add-ons to no avail.

What sorts of things might I try ?

Go to Control Panel - Default Programs - Set Default Programs. Select
WMP and click "Set this program as default". Does that help?

From within which browser are you trying to play these files? Try
right-clicking the links in Internet Explorer, and select Save Target As
to download the files to the hard drive. Is WMP able to play them once
    they're downloaded?

    Regards
