When Playing DIVX Avi Video files in Windows 7 Media Player 12
AND Media Centre there is a white speckling in the image.
Most noticeable in dark sections. Little white dots dancing randomly around.

BUT NOT there when playing ether a MKV or RM file
or watching Streaming Video from such as the BBC website.
and also not such problem when using the Media Player Classic
that comes with K_Lite Codecs Maga pack which I have installed
..
The Speckling was there before the K-Lite installation .
Any ideas. ???
In Win XP I would re install Media Player but can't (apparently) do that in
Win 7
& problem is in Media Centre as well.

This is difficult to comment on since we don't have the same AVI file
and it doesn't help much if I tell you that AVI files play perfectly
well on my system.

I would suggest that you check and see if there's an updated video
card/chipset driver for whatever video system you have. Go directly
to the chipset manufacturer's website (Nvidia or AMD/ATI) and download
whatever driver is current for your card or chipset. That may help if
the video driver you currently have is part of the problem.

You can uninstall Media Player from your Win7 installation.
Control Panel > Programs (& Features)
On the left pane ' Turn Windows features on or off '.
Expand Media Features and make your selection.

Note that the players aren't responsible for the video quality. You
can remove and reinstall various players all day long without
affecting an issue like yours, (unless you're talking about players
like VLC that have the codecs bundled in.)

It's the specific codec that's at the heart of the issue. Your players
are analyzing the video to see which codec(s) can be used to decode
(play) the video, then they use a weighting system to determine the
'best' codec of the ones that are available and claiming to be
compatible.

There are programs available that will tell you which codecs are
available for a specific video type and their current order of
preference. At that point, you can choose to promote a codec and/or
demote another one so that your players will use a different codec
than what they have been using up to now.

Here are a few links to get you started. I'm guessing you need to use
a newer codec for that file type.
