Lost AutoPlay dialogue box when connecting Mini DV Video Camera to IEEE 1394 port

I have been looking at different video editing programs over the last 6
weeks or so and sometime during the process, my computer ceased to display
the Auto Play dialogue box when the camera is attached to the IEEE 1394
(firewire) port.

The camera shows up in Device Manager under Imaging Devices when connected
and immediately disappears when disconnected. It never show up in Windows
Explorer. All software recognizes the camera when it is turned on and the
camera is capable of transferring video to the computer and will receive
video from the computer.

I have removed and re-installed the ports to no avail.

I think that the culprit was Cyberlink Power Director Ultimate that did the
damage as it just took over the operation of the camera when it was
installed. I have removed every trace of the program that I can find from
the registry but it didn't help.

All USB ports work properly and this is my only issue with the computer and
it is actually quite trivial but I would like it fixed if possible.




Computer: Acer Quad Core
Ram: 8 GB
HD: 500 GB free
OS: Win 7 X64
2 IEEE 1394 PORTS: Built in and functional

Have you tried disabling AutoPlay and then re-enabling it? I'm
guessing you mangled the Registry during the uninstallation of Power
Director.

Hopefully you learned that it's never a good idea to play in the
Registry unless you know what you're doing. I'm making an assumption
there, based on your statement that you 'removed every trace'.

Have You had a look in the cameras Properties when its connected And set the
Auto plays Function. If It was associated with Cyber link Which you have
removed then it will need re associating with what to do
Alternatively. Control Panel Auto play Where you can set the action for all
media and devises

Yes I have tried disabling AutoPlay without any positive result.

I agree that it isn't a good idea to "play in the Registry." I never go in
there to play and I always back it up before working in there and I have
been doing this for years and solved many problems.

The idea was to disable AutoPlay, and then re-enable it, hopefully
causing any missing Registry keys to be recreated. Is that what you
did?

Exactly.......strange thing is that every program that can import video
recognizes the camera without problem.
