Just today you were whining about people posting their opinions as if they
were fact, and here you are doing it.

>> It's an anti MS group.

See: you do what you complain about others doing.

The two views are just different ways of looking at things. You are likely
looking at the charter, where the idea that this is an anti-MS group is
based on looking at the posts. Look at how many of your posts talk about MS
instead of Linux - even when you are asked about *intrinsic* factors of
desktop Linux. Heck, do a search for your mantras of "herd mentality" and
the like - in each case you are posting anti-MS stuff, generally (if not
always) without being able to support your claims - you are just bashing the
maker of another OS.

Well......you have to download the right codec for each format, but since
it'll do a search, download, and install it quickly, it's not a real
problem. WMP doesn't come with all of the more common codecs, either.

If you open the new Software Center and click on Other and then install
Ubuntu Restricted Extras, you get all the codecs, flash, java, msfonts
and much more in one fell swoop. Try to play a .flac file in WMP.

Why does Windows7 outsell every version of Linux combined X37? How the hell
should I know?

All I know is that Bose sells a shitload of crap for outrageous prices to
people who don't know what high fidelity sounds like, and have gotten quite
fat and rich doing it.

So, like I said, how the hell do I know why Windows outsells Linux?

Windows7 is the last in a long line of dominant compatability-centric
mononopoly products that date back to MS-DOS when the most successfull
competitor was Apple with their Macintosh.

Windows outsells Linux because it's basically the lates version of DOS.

Windows outsells any and all linux distros (all 500+ of them) and all
Apples computers because Windows will do everything the average computer
users needs and will do it better than all of the others.
Oh, did I mention Windows plays games too!

"latest", actually. Unless they never come up with another version, eh?

Bose _does_ have overpriced gear, but to claim they don't know high
fidelity, is to either lie, or to display woeful ignorance. I am not a fan
of theirs, but I do own an old TV that has a very nice Bose soundsystem
built in. NICE sound.

Anyway, I fail to see what this has to do with the current topic.

Nope. Windows outsells Linux for two reasons. One, most versions of Linux
are free (both meanings), and the other is that MacroSloth's business model
has always been to force a lot of PC makes/sellers to put only Windows on
new machines. True, they've been forced to change that policy, but its
really too late to undo what that policy has accomplished. Eventually,
perhaps, Linux, or another OS will squeeze the bastards out, but I wouldn't
rely upon that notion.

BTW, the last few versions of Windows is NOT a version of MSDOS. Sorry.

No one claimed that "Bose don't know high fidelity". It was claimed
that many of Bose's *customers* don't know high fidelity.

No one doubts that Bose could, if they wanted to, engineer a decent,
high-value, soundsystem. But that's not their usual gig.

That is nonsense rhetoric.

It is a post factum argument simply based on the idea of marketshare
implying something about quality or suitability. Infact, Linux and MacOS
will both do what the typical end user needs and will probably do it a lot
better.

> Oh, did I mention Windows plays games too!
> Oops!

So? That's so passe.

OTOH, Linux and MacOS aren't designed with pervasive security design
flaws and don't need constant tending to lest they become part of some bot
net. Both are much more capable of being an "appliance" than Windows is.

Linux is even embedded in some appliances, most notably the Tivo.

Indeed. One would expect a product with a price to "outsell" a free
product, even if the free product is more popular.

That doesn't mean the proprietary product is better. Sometimes it is, but
sometimes it isn't.

You are obviously one of the duped who have fallen for Bose's ad copy. If I
told when you listen to Bose you are listening to a bad imitation of
high-fidelity, with overpumped bass, etched treble, and poor dynamic range
you prolly wouldn't believe me because you don't know any better.

And if I told you you could spend half the price and get twice as accurate
audio, you would prolly think I was exaggerating (actually, it's true). But
if your only info are the ads in Rolling Stone and SI, what do you expect?

Marketing is King. Long live marketing.

If your punk ass knew anything about audio, you'd STILL be wrong, and you'd
STILL be an obstreperous child. I'd be unsurprised, to learn you'd gotten
your opinion from Stereophile. Stereophile, being a crap excuse for a
magazine, offers highly untrustworthy opinions. Hell, they believe in

And if I told you that I spend far less than you on my gear, and still have
better sound than you, you wouldn't believe it. I have a very good friend,
who often brings me gear that he thinks I might want....though I've had to
discourage him, since my house is getting filled with gear I don't need
(helps to have friends...try making some, sometime).
