i always keep the computer patched to the max. after yesterday's patching,
the computer freezes after a few minutes of playtime. cannot alt tab, ctrl
alt del, etc.

this never happened before. to be certain, i've cleaned out my computer and
the games still freeze, so im certain that the hardware's not causing the
random freezing.

how do i resolve this problem that is caused by the latest patches?

It is probably not the patches that cause the issues. Since the
updates are the last thing people remember installing before they
started having problems, of course it is the updates that is the
reason the system is malfunctioning now.

It is more likely you have outdated drivers (network/video/sound) that
are incompatible with the updates.

When you install MS patches, MS counts on you to make sure every non
MS HW/SW on your system is checked out before you install the
updates. Actually, I doubt MS really gives a hoot, so it is up to
you.

Since you say games, I would start looking at video drivers and get
current.

Or figure out what the MS updates are, uninstall them all and when
your system is functioning again, put them back one at a time until it
breaks.

Uninstalling the patches does not fix your problem though. Even when
you find the (hopefully) one update that causes the issue, you will
still have your original issue - your system doesn't work with the
updates installed. This method of fault isolation is also time
consuming.

Games usually have their own user forums as well so there may be some
relief there.

You can always force a memory dump when the system in hung (that is
one reason the feature is built in) and that will show you what
drivers are in use when the system is hung and sometimes tell you
exactly where to look (no trial and error).
