Back in my school days, calculus was a sophomore college course. Now, if
one wants to major in anything even the slightest bit technical and they
haven't had calculus in high school they will probably be admitted
conditionally. Also, statistics (more valuable to the general population
than calculus) is available in some high schools. (My son-in-law teaches
both.)
