Is Service Desk Edition legal license for business use?

I bought this MS Office 2007 Professional Upgrade to install on a new system
which has MS Works. Now, the packet I received says "Service Desk Edition".
I've read all kinds of opinions, but I'm not satisfied. My concern is whether
this edition is approved by Microsoft for business use.

Thanks,

No. Service Desk Edition used to be a free copy given to retailers and
Microsoft Partners who are in the business of demonstrating and selling
Microsoft products. They can't legally sell these products but hey
rules are always made to be broken otherwise why have the rules in the
first place? If Microsoft does not want people to break any rules, it
won't make the rules!

Hope this helps.

As I understand it Service Desk Edition, is supplied to large retailers in
smaller packaging, and is the same version as supplied by MS in whatever
version, ie H&S or Pro etc

I believe that the Service Desk Edition is supposed to be used by OEM
distributors to help their customers. It should not be sold to any
individual. Where did you get the disk? Online? If so the company's web
site that sold it to you? Please provide this information and I may be able
to assist you further in obtaining proper software.

I would also attempt to get a refund on the product you have purchased..

In edition, to get a definative answer you would have to contact MS, and
state from whom you purchased
