Is OE6 compatible with IE8?

If I upgrade IE6 to IE8, can I still use OE6? Will all my
settings, local folders, etc. be conserved?

IE8 is 99.9% compatible with OE6 (or should that be the other way
round?). However, you should be aware of one minor irritation.

When you print a multi-page email, you may find that the printed
version crops approximately one inch from the right hand side of
the first page. The problem doesn't affect every email and only
seems to affect a few HTML messages that contain graphics.
Fortunately, there are several workarounds, that overcome the
problem.

When you print a document from Outlook Express, OE6 uses the
Internet Explorer print engine. I suspect there may be a problem
with the way OE6 interacts with the "Shrink to fit" feature of
IE7 & IE8 (which is enabled by default). The same bug also
affects printing from Windows Live Mail. Microsoft are supposed
to be working on a solution - but don't hold your breath.

However, IE8 offers so many advantages over IE6 that I would not
allow this bug to influence my decision whether to upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up, Bob.

Yes. OE6 settings and folders will be preserved.

Why hold your breath? A workaround (but not a fix) has been available since
April 2007 (IIRC). Details available but please begin a new thread *in OE
General newsgroup* - state your full Windows version, IE version, and tell
me if update KB980182 is installed in your first post.
