Is msnews.microsoft.com dead?

I come to this newsgroup periodically when I have an issue with Windows but
that doesn't happen very often.

I'm using Outlook Express on XP as my news reader and when I try to get a
complete list of newsgroups on msnews.microsoft.com, this
(microsoft.public.windowsxp.general) is the ONLY newsgroup listed on the
whole server.

What's going on? Has Microsoft gone over to a web-based approach and
abandoned usenet as I suspect? If they have, what is this one solitary
newsgroup still doing in existence? Surely it can't be worth the bother to
keep the new server alive for only one newsgroup, even if it is fairly
heavily used like this one.....

If this news server IS dead, where are we supposed to be going?

Nah, something is wrong on your system as there are well over a hundred
groups.

More like 2,000+

Outlook Express General newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general

OT. From your message headers:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180

You are running a very old and less secure version of Outlook Express. You
do not have even one critical update since SP2 was released in August,
2004. Do yourself a favor and visit Windows Updates ASAP.

Hey Pig-Hagen,

There are people (me included) who are not interested in M$ updates.
Why are you concerned about this? I have not installed any updates
since SP3 was released and I have no plans to do. I have come to the
conclusion that people should not bother with updates because they are
becoming gimmicky to have useless updates month after month that don't
serve any useful purpose.

Hey stupid.
YOU and all the idiots like you are one of the reasons the internet is awash
with WINDOWS viruses - because you can't be arsed to keep your computer
secure.
I don't give a monkey's nuts about YOUR computer but I do give a fig about
having to protect mine from idiots like YOU.

CRETIN.

Hey Cretin,

So you did download my crack for Windows 7? The message you get about
viruses is completely false. I only distribute clean cracks. I can
send you direct to your mailbox if you wish!!

Are you upset that I bonked your sister and wife in a three-some? I
have to say they are completely useless and if it is in the family then
you too must be completely impotent and so taking out your anger on
these newsgroups!! Have you thought of seeking medical advice?

Thanks everyone, especially Ben Myers. Ben's suggestion of resetting the
list got me back to a much longer selection of newsgroups.

I really thought the Microsoft news server was on the verge of disappearing!

And thanks for the warning about the old version of Outlook Express; I plan
to run some Windows Updates soon but have bigger fish to fry first ;-)

Your sister seems to like guessing my name. You need to learn to count
boy. There are 7 days in a week and you get 7 different names. Yous
sister is improving these days and your website does show her picture
these days.
